How to Prepare for Your Branding Photography Consultation
Since every brand is so different, I don’t create one-size-fits-all branding images. Which is partly why I love branding photography! It’s a challenge to hear the story of your business and figure out how to translate that story into visual imagery.
So before we do your branding session, we will get together for a consultation. We’ll ask each other questions, plan the details of the shoot, and this is your chance to tell me all about your business that you’ve worked so hard to create. Here are some ways to help you prepare for our consultation!
CONSIDER THE LOOK & FEEL OF YOUR BRAND
I want these images to match the rest of your branding as closely as possible. It’s important to tell me if your brand colors are pink and teal or if you always post light and airy images or if your brand is all about loving yourself. Some clients bring whole branding boards. Some clients bring a list of descriptive words. Some clients bring images that they feel represent their brand already. Whatever makes your brand recognizable to your target market is what we want to recreate with your images.
THINK ABOUT WHAT LOCATIONS, PROPS, & PEOPLE FIT YOUR BRAND
These are the details that we will use to tell your brand’s story. If you are an art teacher, then you might already know you want a classroom setting, a child model, and art supplies as props. If you are folk musician, you might already know you want a mountaintop setting and your fiddle. I don’t expect you to have all the answers to this, and I’m happy to help you with the specifics, but it’s good to start with a general idea.
RESEARCH AND GATHER INSPIRATION
Do you Pinterest? This is my favorite way to share visual inspiration. You could also send me other brands whose style you love, individual images, branding boards, or mood boards. This step is not required, but it is helpful to see what you are already envisioning in your head.
MAKE A SHOT LIST
It’s always a great idea to check in with yourself, your team, or your designer, and know if there are any specific images you need. For example, you may need a wide header image of your product, or a headshot for your about page, or a wide shot of your office. This list may be super specific or maybe you just know you need a wide variety of images. We can plan the list together if you need help. You scheduled a session with me because your brand need images, and I just want to make sure that we get every image you need.
Lastly, don’t stress! The point of the consultation is not for you to have all the answers. It’s for me to get to know you and your brand so I can create images that reflect your brand’s story and speak to your tribe.
