PLAYING WITH COLOR
Sometimes I need to go back to my photographic roots. When I first picked up a camera, I didn't know all the "rules" of photography. This meant I made a lot of terrible images (no, I will never show them to you). It also meant that I tried crazy creative things and often came up with really great images just by playing. So sometimes it's really great to do a shoot just for fun. And play with ideas that might not work.
Thanks to makeup artist Tia Hixon and model Gabriela MacArdle, for playing with color with me on this shoot. You are both fabulous and creative and talented. I love that we truly collaborated to make these images.
These were all shot in West Asheville and the River Arts District. If you live in Asheville, you've probably driven past these areas. The clothes were sourced from thrift stores and my own closet. The flamingo socks are from Target. I couldn't resist them.
I experimented with gels and a custom cut screen to bring more whimsy to some of the shots. Neither turned out exactly as I was expecting, but that's part of the fun of playing with photography. Creating the unexpected.
